UW Discovery Farms and Professional Dairy Producers (PDPW) have teamed up once again to showcase water-quality innovations and practices that affect people, animals and our environment.
Join the conversation with community members, dairy producers and local elected officials and see water quality topics more clearly as we tour businesses, learn about farmer-let watersheds and water-quality issues affecting rabidly growing urban areas. See what’s being done to preserve our most precious resource.
Stop 1: 10:00 am
Sunburst Dairy, Belleville
Brian and Yogi Brown and son Cory manage a 500-cow dairy. Brian is president of the Farmers for the Upper Sugar River farmer-led watershed group. Attendees will see the dairy’s conservation and cropping strategies and learn about the work the farmer-led group is doing to protect water quality and enhance it for future generations.
Stop 2: 11:30 am
Lunch at Paoli Bread and Brat Haus and the Hop Garden
Along the banks of the Sugar River, attendees will enjoy lunch while Wade Moder, Executive Director of the Upper Sugar River Watershed Association, will share work the association is doing with farmers, as well as highlights from their management of invasive aquatic life.
Stop 3: 12:45 pm
City of Verona Public Works
In a city that continues to see explosive growth, Assistant Director Marty Cieslik will talk through how the rise in population and business demands impacts storm-water management and infrastructure construction and inspection.
Wisconsin Brewing Company
Get an inside look at the role water plays during a tour of this Verona-based brewery. Learn how the Wisconsin Brewing Company crafts their specialty brews and handles processes for managing wastewater streams.
Open to the Public: $30 each
Registration includes chartered bus travel, snacks, refreshments and lunch.
- 9:30 am meet at Verona Park and Ride – US 18/151 to Verona Exit 81, head south on old PB or eastbound exit 79, head north on Old PB. Park in west side lot.
- 3:30 pm bus returns
- Wear comfortable shoes
All attendees will ride the bus.
