In our issue of February 3, we announced our sale of Holstein World magazine to the Purebred Publishing group. And while it is a significant milestone in our company’s history, as well as mine personally, we also want to recognize a valued staff member. Carol Moyer is retiring after more than 40 years of commitment to Holstein World and dairy breeders.
She grew up on her parents’ dairy farm nearby the World’s longtime location in Sandy Creek, Oswego County, New York. A graduate of the local high school, Carol joined the company in August 1973 as a temporary worker in the front office compiling Holstein auction sale results published in the magazine. She stayed on full time in the graphics department, setting headlines for advertising and text, making screened prints from photos and working as a proof reader. She also assisted in the photo library and again in the front office before her assignment as secretary to popular World staff member, the late Bob McKown. In that role she became familiar with breeders across the country, working with them and the World staff to put together their advertisements, nearly all of which were produced in-house back in those days.
For the better part of her career she has been active in sales of breeder advertising, always dedicated to helping breeders keep their ads accurate and timely. Her proofing skills were invaluable, not only for the advertisements, but for the editorial stories as well. More recently she has coordinated presentation of our All-American Contests… Holstein and Jersey, Open and Junior.
Throughout her career, Carol led by example, committed to the magazine, its readers and advertisers, her colleagues and the company.
She and her husband, Art, a master mason, have raised two sons, Jeromy and Jason. She is very proud of her grandchildren… granddaughter Lexi, age 16 and grandson Kyle, 14… both honor students at Belleville – Henderson Central School. Carol says her focus now will be on her catering activities… Bay Bar-B-Que… with her family started 10 years ago.
We salute Carol for her successful career touching five decades, while wishing her a long and happy retirement. Thank you, Carol!
