Experts will discuss current topics in dairy farming

Miner Institute’s annual Dairy Day meeting will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Joseph C. Burke Education and Research Center, 586 Ridge Road, Chazy. This meeting is free and open to the public.

Speakers at this year’s event include Miner Institute President Dr. Rick Grant, Dr. Sarah Morrison, Dr. Heather Dann, Katie Ballard, and Laura Klaiber. Dr. Grant will present a talk titled, Happy Herd, Happy Life: Forages and Feeding Management to Make Your Cows Smile; Dr. Morrison will present a talk titled Kick the Cold: Winter Management and Feeding of Calves; Dr. Dann’s talk is titled Start the Lactation Off with a Bang: Focus on Transition Cow Management; Ballard will present a talk titled Beat the Heat: Are North Country Cows Susceptible to Heat Stress?; and Klaiber will give an update on her edge-of-field water quality research. A tour of the Miner Institute dairy and research facilities will be offered after the talks from 3:30 to 5 pm. Participants are also encouraged to attend the Cornell Feed Dealers Meeting from 6 to 9 pm, also at the Joseph C. Burke Education and Research Center at Miner Institute. The Feed Dealers meeting will feature Dr. Tom Overton and Dr. Kristan Reed discussing topics targeted toward nutritionists, veterinarians, crop and management consultants, extension educators, and dairy producers with specific interest in nutrition-oriented topics. The information presented is designed to blend the latest concepts in feeding and other management aspects of dairies with field level application.
