Panel discussions and expert presentations highlighted the Dairy Profit Seminars held at Empire Farm Days. The largest outdoor farm show in the Northeast provided the setting held Aug. 7 – 9 at the Rodman Lott & Sons farm near Seneca Falls, N.Y. DairyBusiness organizes the effort which is presented by Cornell’s PRO-DAIRY and the Northeast Dairy Producers Association (NEDPA).
Dairy One, Ithaca, N.Y., presented two panel discussions under the theme of getting more value from DHI records… Data to Dollars. The value of dairy records for managing in this tight dairy economy is higher than ever, according to the producers and consultants speaking.
NEDPA organized a timely and insightful program with owners of four farms describing their public relations efforts, ranging from the neighbors to national audiences. Protecting the opportunity to farm and showing consumers how dairy is produced is critical in this era.

PRO-DAIRY staff presented on three topics even more important during times of low milk prices. Dr. Tom Overton spoke about feeding strategies, Dr. Jerry Bertoldo presented calf raising tips from birth to weaning, while Jason Karszes and Ashley Howlett talked about labor efficiencies.
The New York Junior Dairy Leaders program held its annual graduation program here also, with students presenting a recap of their year’s activities under the direction of Debbie Grusenmeyer with assistance from Heather Darrow.
