To provide additional support for dairy producers during the COVID-19 pandemic, DHI systems nationwide are partnering with IDEXX, a worldwide leader in providing diagnostic tests and information for livestock and poultry. A special promotion on the AlertysTM Milk Pregnancy test is being offered from May 1 through June 30.
“We understand that dairy production doesn’t stop even when markets dry up, prices fall and veterinary visits taper off due to the need for social distancing,” explains Jim Rhoades DVM, commercial manager and veterinarian for the company.
He says the AlertysTM testing program can reduce days open, increase production, and improve herd health with accurate, fast results as early as 28 days post-breeding, which identifies open animals and ensures rebreeding in a timely manner. And with milk samples that can be collected in the parlor, no additional handling is required, protecting workers and boosting cow comfort.
In validated testing, the AlertysTM milk pregnancy test has a sensitivity of 98.7%, compared with a range of 77.8% to 90.5% for transrectal ultrasound, in a study by Fosgate, on the dairy farm.
To take advantage of this program, DHI dairy producers simply select pregnancy testing on their request forms when submitting milk samples on scheduled DHI testing or separately when testing individual cows. Dairy operators are invited to contact their DHI representative for more information. To learn more about the AlertysTM pregnancy tests go to www.idexx.com/AlertysDHI
