Holstein Canada, the breed association based in Brantford, Ont., has announced that the long-running All-Canadian Contest will become part of its activities, taken over from the Holstein Journal magazine, formerly owned and published by the late Peter English. The Journal ceased publication in March 2019. English passed away in November that year, with his family announcing that the contest would continue.
In a recent release, the Association reports, “After conferring with the English family and the Holstein Journal team, it was agreed Holstein Canada would be the best fit for the contest.”
The release continues, saying, “The success of this acclaimed contest is without a doubt due to the efforts over many decades in which Peter English, the Holstein Journal team and dedicated men and women shared their passion for the best Holstein cows. Holstein Canada and the Show & Judging Committee are committed to preserving the integrity and evolution of this long-standing contest, for the benefit of exhibitors and breeders, today and for generations to come.”
Rules and regulations for this photo contest, conducted at the end of each show season, will fall under the Show & Judging Committee currently chaired by Nancy Beerwort. Gerald Schipper is the current Holstein Canada board president.
The announcement said the contest will resume in 2021, at the conclusion of the Holstein show season. According to former longtime Journal Editor Bonnie Cooper, who coordinated the Contest for many years, she and former Journal staffer David Knapp will likely assist.
