MDA Summer Classic and June Dairy Month Celebration Tomorrow

Dairy producers in the state will be joined tomorrow by Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft and Attorney General Josh Hawley for the Missouri Dairy Association’s (MDA) Summer Classic field day and celebration of June Dairy Month.

Tomorrow’s Summer Classic starts at 10 AM with a tour of a new compost pack barn on the dairy farm of Lloyd and David Gunter at 1148 State Highway WW, Conway, Missouri.

“Compost pack barns are newer technology contributing to cow comfort and are gaining popularity in Missouri.” says MDA President Ted Sheppard, a dairy producer from Cabool, Missouri.

“Following the lunch, there will be the official presentation of the State of Missouri Proclamation for June Dairy Month by Secretary Ashcroft followed by Attorney General Hawley with additional remarks after the presentation.

“We are proud of the fact that Missouri’s dairy industry adds $2 billion to the state’s gross domestic product according to a University of Missouri study,” says Sheppard.  “The study also showed an economic output effect per cow in Missouri of $14,464.

“That’s why MDA believes it is a high priority for the State to maintain a local milk supply for the benefit of consumers and our local dairy producers.

“A large crowd of dairy producers, allied industry, federal and state government officials, and members of the Missouri General Assembly are expected to attend,” says Sheppard.

“All dairy producers and their families, along with allied industry, are invited to attend the Summer Classic.

“There is no registration fee for attendees,” concludes Sheppard.
