From the Mountains to the Sea was the theme for the 2017 National Convention and the sale consignments for the National Convention Sale were most certainly the best from consignors coast to coast! An outstanding selection of the top of the breed was presented on Friday evening, June 30, that included All-American type, genomics, deep pedigrees and phenomenal cow families.
Sale Co-Chairs Chris Baginski and Andy Portman, and the crews from The Cattle Exchange and Courtney Sales LLC offered something for everyone. The sale was held in the ballroom of the Hyatt Regency. With limited space to house the cattle at the convention center, the genomic animals sold in absentia. Prior to the sale, the consignments on hand were housed at Sildahl Farms until Tuesday afternoon at which time they would be moved to the parking garage of the Hyatt. The cattle arrived with a full police escort of sirens, motorcycles and police cars surrounding the semi and trailers.
Topping the sale at $106,000 was MsDG-TM Modestry Breeze-ET. The March 2017 Modesty daughter is believed to be the highest Net Merit $ calf to sell worldwide. With a +2881GTPI, +1010NM$, +2.8DPR, she ranks in the top 20 for NM$, top 50 for GTPI and top 100 for CM$ with +1012. Consigned by Diamond Genetics, Drakker, VanderVlis and Tom Mercuro of Maryland, she is out of MS DG-TM Delta Blake-ET, a promising young Mr Mogul Delta 1427-ET daughter with +2770GTPI +926NM$ out of the VG-86 Calbrett Supersire Barb-ET *RC that previously sold for $265,000. The next dam is VG-86 and is a daughter of the EX-95 multiple All-American and All-Canadian Barbara. This special young calf was purchased by Sexing Technologies, LLC of Texas.
Second-high seller of the day was another Modesty daughter born in January 2017 from AOT Genetics, Kugler & King of New York. With a GTPI of +2870 she is out of a Seagull-Bay Silver-ET with a +2587 GTPI and is a full sister to Helix. Their dam is the VG-87 Cookiecutter Ssire Has-ET with over 38,700M. She was purchased by GenoSource and WinStar Genetics of Idaho.
The sale grossed $1,206,050 on 70 head with an average of $20,260 on 59 full lots. Dave Rama read pedigrees with Dan Brandt as auctioneer.
