As the highlight of their annual meeting, the Northeast Agribusiness and Feed Alliance (NEAFA) honored Cornell Professor Emeritus, Dr. Dale Bauman, with a Distinguished Service Award. Honored during the NEAFA awards luncheon in Albany, New York in early February, Dr. Bauman is recognized worldwide for his research to maximize efficient production of milk from healthy cows.

Dr. Bauman is a native of Michigan and attended Michigan State University. From a dairy farm upbringing Bauman received a 4-H scholarship to MSU and became one of the world’s most cited agricultural scientists. His abiding interest has been in dairy cattle and he has made several major contributions to the fundamental understanding of the lactation process.

Dr. Bauman obtained his PhD in Dairy Science from the University of Illinois in 1969. He remained there for a decade, then moved to Cornell University. Dr. Bauman capped his career with research directed toward “functional foods”- using milk to deliver beneficial milk components into the human diet.

The NEAFA Distinguished Service Award is presented annually in recognition of lifelong service to the animal feed, dairy and livestock industries in the northeast. It is the highest honor awarded by NEAFA to express gratitude for enduring contributions to agriculture.

The Alliance annual meeting is an opportunity for education and networking for agribusiness members throughout the northeast. The Northeast Agribusiness and Feed Alliance is a 300 member organization committed to supporting a thriving northeast agricultural community through advocacy, education and collaboration. Members of the Alliance include feed, seed, fertilizer companies, financial service providers, transportation companies, veterinarians, nutritional services providers, and professional advisors.
