Northeast Dairy Association Announces Scholarships

$15,000 Awarded to College Students

Bruce W. Krupke, Executive Vice President of the Northeast Dairy Association, Inc. located in Syracuse, NY announced the awarding of $15,000 in scholarships to 10 college students who are affiliated with members of the dairy products vendor and supplier Association.

The awards were announced at the annual meeting of the Association on July 12th.

The scholarship qualifications include full time enrollment of an accredited school; community, industry or group involvement; GPA of 2.5 or better; recommendation letter; and short personal essay.

Mr. Krupke said “is it a pleasure to utilize the Association’s resources to assist student’s further education in the areas of dairy foods science and related majors, nothing can be more important than to support the future workers in dairy product processing and manufacturing industry.”

Xiaogiong Cao, Amherst, MA - University of Massachusetts Amherst, Food Science Major $2,000

Jenna Fryer, North Syracuse, NY - Ohio State University, Food Science Major $2,000

Cansu Gumus, Amherst, NY – University of Massachusetts Amherst, Food Science Major $2,000

Christopher Sweeney, Appleton, NY – Cornell University, Food Science Major $2,000

Ozzie Orsillo, Director of Sales for Evergreen Packaging and President of NDA said “we are very pleased each year to assist our member family students in their college studies and future career plans, we need to continue to encourage our youth to enter the exciting world of the dairy industry and its many opportunities.”

Funding of the scholarships is obtained through the Northeast Dairy Association, Inc. many events and activities conducted throughout the year. Also this year the Huhtamaki Corporation generously donated $250 to the fund in the memory of Thomas Perry, former President and CEO of Perry’s Ice Cream Company in Akron, NY.

NDA is an association of dairy industry suppliers and vendor companies, individuals and students. Scholarship information is made available each year after February 1 with applications due by June 1st. The information can be found on the association’s website at
