Thirty-five students benefit from Hilmar Cheese Company, Inc. scholarships

Thirty-five students demonstrating community involvement, academic performance and financial need will each receive a scholarship toward their higher education through Hilmar Cheese Company’s sixteenth annual scholarship program.

The scholarship program has three categories: children of employees of Hilmar Cheese Company, children of the dairy farm families who ship milk to Hilmar Cheese Company, and students with an agricultural major living in the counties where the company is located. The third category is for students not directly affiliated with the company; but dedicated to the agricultural industry and living in Merced and Stanislaus counties in California, and Dallam and Hartley counties in Texas.


Ten children of employees will receive a scholarship. Graduating high school seniors awarded $1,500 include Koren Allen (Orestimba High), Caressa Barros (Hilmar High), Melina Cruz (Delhi High), Mikayla Schmidt (Hilmar High). Current college student Erika Moreno (California State University, Stanislaus) is awarded also $1,500. Graduating high school seniors awarded $1,000 include Elizabeth Roman (James C. Enochs High), Drieu Swanson(Hilmar High) and Matthew Sisley (Dalhart High). Current college students Allison Cardoso (Modesto Junior College) and Sydney Jesko (Frank Phillips College, Amarillo) are awarded $1,000.

Six children of the dairy farm families who ship their milk to Hilmar Cheese Company in California will receive a scholarship. Carter Azevedo (Hilmar High), Willem Hoekstra (Ripon Christian High), Catherine Machado (Turlock High), Sierra Omlin (Modesto High), Bryson Prock (Denair High) and Jillian Melo (University of Oregon) will each receive $1,000.

Merced and Stanislaus counties California agricultural majors Camille Alamo (Gustine High), Kyle Borrelli (Gustine High), Callista Dyt (Orestimba High), David Edwards (Hilmar High), Belinda Espinoza (Atwater High), Joey Freitas (Turlock High), Jill Friesen (Livingston High), Anna Lozano (Atwater High), Callie Norton (Atwater High), Wyatt Amaral (California State University, Chico), Donovan Miguel (Modesto Junior College), Annelise Perez (Modesto Junior College), Rachel Pimentel (Fresno State), Cassandra Smith (Fresno State), Sara Theodozio (Cal Poly, SLO), Adriana Toste (Modesto Junior College) and Trevor Wingett (Modesto Junior College) are each awarded $500.

Dallam and Hartley counties Texas agricultural major Katelyn Nolt and Nataleigh Valles (Dalhart High) are each awarded $500.

The Hilmar Cheese Company scholarship program reflects the company’s ongoing support of higher education and its commitment to employees, dairy farm families, and the California and Texas agricultural industries.
