This Week in Dairy featuring an interview with Horace Backus Part 1

Horace Backus of Mexico, New York is without doubt the "Dean" of Registered Holsteins, having spent his career as a breeder, sale manager, Holstein Association leader and pedigree man at many of the top Holstein auctions of the last 50 years.

Joel Hastings of DairyBusiness spent time with Horace at his home, talking with him about a few highlights of his career. In this first segment, he recalls his involvement with the Dunloggin Dispersal in 1943, at the time the highest selling Holstein herd ever. He was only in high school and his father, R. Austin Backus, was the sale manager and auctioneer, but Horace's recollections are fascinating.
